About Us
Still Contending for the Faith
The church of Jesus Christ is engaged in a warfare against the powers of evil and as soldiers in the Lord's army we are called to earnestly contend for the faith. (Jude 3) As contenders for the faith we should never be ashamed, for the cause is a righteous cause and the victory is certain. We must exercise faith in our Captain and put on the armour He provides. If we trust in our own strength we will be defeated and if we are unprepared for the battle we will suffer loss. With Paul and Timothy and the saints of God in every age we need to be ready for battle. (1 Timothy 1:18. 6:12. 2 Timothy 4..).

The Protestant Truth Society seeks to play its part in that battle. We are but a small division in a worldwide army but we seek to unite and encourage all Bible believing Christians in their stand for the truth of God. It is a fight which demands watchfulness and faithfulness. We contend with the world, the flesh and the devil and though the warfare be long and hard Christ assures us that the victory is ours. In the meanwhile there is a great need for watchmen who will warn the people of God when the enemy attacks Ezekiel 33. Our prayer is that we may be faithful watchmen with a clear trumpet call to prepare God's people for battle (Numbers 10:8,9. 1 Corinthians 14:8).

Our Society - Yesterday and Today
The Protestant Truth Society was established in 1889 to take a stand against the growing influence of Romanism within church and nation. From small beginnings the work began to grow and in 1898 the first band of Wickliffe Preachers was appointed. In 1905 the Kensit Memorial Bible College was established in Finchley to train Wickliffe Preachers their work in declaring the gospel and defending the faith. Today, our world is very different from that of 1889. Britain no longer 'rules the waves' and we no longer have an Empire, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Political, social and technological change is continual but the needs of men's hearts are still the same and the gospel of Jesus Christ is still the only hope for a weary, sin sick world. Romanism is still at variance with the gospel but so are liberalism, humanism, Islam and countless other philosophies and ideologies which enslave the hearts and minds of men and women. By proclaiming the truth in love we earnestly contend for the faith.
Our Aims and Beliefs
1. To show that "Protestant Truth" and "Biblical Truth" are one. Unfortunately, protestantism has at times been mixed with certain political and cultural additives which have little or nothing to do with true protestantism. The word "Protestant" has a positive not a negative content, signifying one who bears witness and publicly testifies to the Lord Jesus Christ. The reformers of the 16th century used the word in this sense. It is our desire to promote a "consistent" protestantism - a biblical Christianity which transforms our beliefs and behaviour, a contemporary protestantism which is ever learning from the past but also looking to the future. (Psalm 78.1-8) 2. To work alongside churches in providing biblical teaching concerning fundamental protestant belief and through lectures and audio-visual presentations provide an introduction to the protestant and evangelical heritage of our land. A number of our preachers have themselves served in pastoral ministry and have a burden for an increased awareness amongst God's people for the need to 'be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might' (Eph. 6:10)

3. To declare the gospel to the world. Again this emphasises the "outward looking" nature of the work.
Through open air witness and agricultural show exhibits we seek to reach many who would never darken the doors of a place of worship but will engage in "one to one" conversation and read our free literature. If you are concerned for the salvation of souls this is an important part of our work which needs your prayer support.

We are an interdenominational Society, and are willing to visit congregations throughout the country. If you would like to hear more of the work at either a midweek meeting or through the ministry on the Lord's Day please ring: 020 7405 4960 or alternatively write to: P.T.S., 184 Fleet St., London EC4A 2HJ.

As Protestants we seek to be both Christ centred and Bible based in all we undertake. We are committed to a belief in the Authority and Sufficiency of Scripture for all matters of faith and conduct. The doctrines of Justification by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone and of the priesthood of all believers are at the heart of our Protestant Faith. A fuller statement of our beliefs is found in our basis of faith which is available on request.

Our Work
All Christians are involved in ministry. We are all called to be servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Society is engaged in a number of ministries which seek to advance the cause of Christ in our land. Here is a brief summary of our work: Preaching, Teaching and Evangelism

Our Wickliffe Preachers are the itinerant ministers of the Society and they seek to proclaim Biblical and Protestant Truth. They are available for ministry throughout the year to suit the needs of your particular group or gathering. It may be an historical lecture or an audio-visual presentation or perhaps a ladies fellowship or youth group - whatever your particular needs we will try to help in any way. Above all, our preachers are first and foremost preachers of the gospel and we welcome all requests for Lord's Day ministry. In addition, our preachers value your prayers for their open air witness that fruit may be evident for the glory of Christ. This aspect of our work continues each Tuesday at Tower Hill, London.
